Problem is that I use SAI, which is a PC only program (including pen pressure.) I can get SAI for mac, but, it will not have pen pressure and thus my dilemma. I've been told I have to partition my hard drive, and I saw on youtube, but still this is foreign to me.
I've not had best luck with programs such as these (Messing with the hard drive, basically) because that sort of thing is something I'm sort of afraid I'm going to fuck up my computer with. I do have an external hard drive, so it really isn't like I would lose everything.
Still, if I do royally fuck up my computer and would have to reset it, I would lose programs I can never get replaced. So, what do I do? I saw terms like virtual machine and I downloaded something called 'wine bottler' and I can't figure out how to use it, despite numerous tutorials. I also saw something called crossover but I don't know if its a scam or not.
Finally, I could somehow procure a copy of windows Xp and up- as I don't have like pirating anything and to be fair I don't like pirating software. Is there anything automatic? I have the PC version of SAI in my folders- like the.exe and stuff. To be honest, I wish I could just hand over the computer to someone, but if I never learn then what was the point? Several methods to running Windows applications on a Mac so I'll explain them from best to worst (although in this case worst doesn't mean bad):. Multi-boot is generally referring to Boot Camp but there are some alternatives. It does require repartitioning your hard drive as you will need some space to install the other operating system(s). The best solution because you will literally be running Windows (or Linux, etc.) on your Mac and able to run any applications at full speed with no compatibility issues, etc. Two downsides are you have to dedicate some drive space to the alternative OSs, and you have to select which one you want to run when you boot. Virtual machine refers to VMWare, Parallels, VirtualBox, etc., and does not require you to reboot as you are running the other operating system in an OS X window. You can freely switch between OS X and Windows (or Linux, etc.), drag and drop between OSs, but applications running in the virtual machine are not running at full speed and there may be compatibility issues (most notably with Windows games although Parallels handles those best).
Wine, as best as I understand it, is a way to package Windows applications, along with a runtime library, so that they run like a native app on OS X. Crossover is a commercialized version of this as they've done a lot of the tweaking that may be necessary to get a particular application to work. This has the most compatibility issues with many applications not able to run at all, and others with limited support, etc. If your application is one that is known to run though it is an acceptable solution. If you only ever need to run the Windows version of SAI and Wine supports it it is the least expensive option but may require the most effort to get it running initially. My preferred solution is Boot Camp and VMWare, probably the most expensive solution in terms of both money and drive space. Why I prefer it though is I can boot into Windows when I need the best Windows experience on my Mac hardware, and I can run the Windows partition in a VMWare virtual machine when I'm booted in OS X (although with less performance).
